My Art Book

Ask me anything Paintings

I am an Artist in progress living in Vancouver and am currently attending Emily Carr University of Art and Design. I started doing art a couple of years ago, and despite my parents disapproval, I have stuck to and fought for my art. I love sketching, to the point where I will catch myself looking at my surroundings as sketches. Art is not only my passion, but also my outlet and therapy; it always manages to cheer me up. The posts with my tumblr link on them are made by me. You are more than welcome to reblog them but please give me credit =] If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Nice to meet you all and welcome to my little art world! <3

Last day of The Show (my grad show) yesterday. I was having a little fun with King! Gonna miss seeing this big guy stretched out on the wall like this instead of all rolled up in a tube…brining him home tomorrow.

Photo inspired by Élan and other people’s fun pictures with King of Panthera! Thank you guys :) it was super satisfying to see how people react, engage and interact with my piece.

King of Panthera (18’ x 10’; April 2014; charcoal, chalk pastel, acrylic on paper)

All the growth, struggles, solitude (as a drawer), fighting and defending for drawing, pushing limits….only a (diving) tiger can represent and conclude my journey at Emily Carr - a short (3 yrs) and at times very frustrating but at the same time exciting and nurturing journey…definitely memorable and proud! My drawings had took flight under the wings of great instructors and the supports from friends! I can’t thank them enough…hopefully my grad piece can make them proud :)

I want to take the time to sincerely thank you guys for all your support, kind words and sweet messages (which I do apologize for my slow reply, I’ve been focusing on my grad project but I will get to you guys very soon!). I will continue to make art and challenge myself, this is a promise I made to you and myself.

Thank you :3

I’ve been working on my grad piece for four weeks and it’s finally DONE!! I’ve never spent so much time and had so many struggles with just one drawing. My right hand is super raw, I rubbed off my skin due to blending, my knees are bruised due to kneeling constantly, toes are also bruised due to bending, legs and shoulders are super soar BUT it’s all worth it…at the end of the day I still truly love drawing and right after my piece was finished, I missed drawing it already.

It is a 18’ x 10’ (feet not inches) drawing of a tiger hunting underwater. Here’s a sneak peek, I will upload the whole drawing after grad show opening :) which is happening on May 3rd, 5-10pm (I will be there till around 7:30). The show will go on till May 18th. See you all at Emily Carr on Granville Island! :3

Anonymous asked: How long did it take for you to draw at this level? And what got you started? You're absolutely amazing.

Answer:

Hi Anon,

Thank you for your support! I started doing art about 6 years ago, focusing on ceramics but I became very allergic to the glazes and clay, so, I moved onto painting (I miss doing ceramics A LOT and I love painting). After getting accepted into Emily Carr about 3 years ago, I changed my focus onto drawing and I couldn’t be more in love! My drawing skills really took flight at Emily Carr with the help of awesome instructors and tremendous helps and supports from friends. I do art because I love it so much to the point I can’t live without it (I would do sketches in my head if I forgot my sketchbook or when I’m bored, I also see everything as a drawing or a painting or see gestural lines everywhere. Maybe I am crazy :/ ). There are times when I couldn’t draw (physically) and it made me so depressed. Art is a way to connect and understand the world around me, also to express and invited the outside world into mine, to see the world through my eyes, through my emotions, my marks, my energy. Art is also very therapeutic for me, I glow when I draw (or paint/throw) and when I talk about it :)
